We want to ensure our products are designed in accordance with the United Nations Sustainability Development Goal 12, Responsible Consumption and Production. It is estimated that design defines over 80% of all environmental impacts of a product. Hence, we are committed to making conscious decisions from the early design development phase, to the selection of materials, until the final stage of packaging our products.

A product’s circular potential is determined at the design stage. Building on our continued commitment to the longevity of our products, Kvadrat's Conscious Design Principles will guide the design direction for our brands and our production partners, while reducing our dependence on virgin materials and resources.

Our targets

We will offer 85 recycled textile products which will generate 30% of our revenue by 2025

We will reduce production waste and water use by 25% by 2025 (baseline 2021)

We will ensure that by 2025 none of our packaging contains virgin plastic or cardboard

Our 2024 performance highlights

7 new recycled products

In 2024, Kvadrat launched seven recycled textiles, bringing our total number of recycled textile products to 38. Alongside four recycled upholsteries and two recycled curtains qualities, we re-released our best-selling recycled wool textile, Re-wool 2, and launched our first upholstery made from 100% recycled polyester textile waste, Ame. This innovative product marks a step forward in closing the loop within the textile lifecycle.

Repurposing 4,400 kg of yarn

Kvadrat’s polyester production partner, Kvadrat Weaving, implemented new waste collection processes across its warping and weaving departments, enabling Kvadrat to explore new waste recycling, upcycling and closed-loop solutions. A total of 4,400 kg of yarn was repurposed into applications such as insulation, instead of being incinerated, and 20 tonnes of production waste was sent to Kvadrat Really for upcycling. Additionally, a new yarn containing 30% of our own selvedge waste has been developed, closing the loop in our production waste. The yarn will be used in a new textile product in 2025.

Launching a PFAS-free blockout roller blind textile

Kvadrat Shade introduced Unlit Blockout, a PFAS-free blockout roller blind
textile that redefines industry standards. Traditionally, PFAS chemicals
have been used in blockout textiles, raising concerns about human and
environmental health. Unlit Blockout offers the same high performance while eliminating these harmful substances.

Kvadrat Febrik repurposes its own textile waste

Kvadrat Febrik has collaborated with its supplier to develop a 100% recycled yarn, comprising 60% post-industrial textile scraps from its own production and 40% post-consumer polyester fibres. The yarn will be integrated into Regos, a new knitted textile launching in the autumn of 2025.

First third-party validated EPD for Haku

Together with our Chinese supplier, we have achieved the first third-party
validated EPD for our non-woven textile Haku, with a total footprint of 6.96 kg CO2 per kg of textile. This project, which involved extensive data collection and validation, is an excellent example of our strong partnerships with suppliers.

Expanding EPD coverage and enhancing transparency

At Kvadrat, we have conducted a full update of our 10 existing EPDs, now
covering more than 100 Kvadrat textiles. This includes incorporating 55 new textiles and refining key data with five of our main suppliers, in areas such as energy sources, energy consumption and waste shares. A key outcome has been recalibrating our wool emission factor – raising the economic allocation for wool from 3.05% to 5% – to enhance transparency and drive meaningful carbon reductions with our partners.
